GROWING AFTER THE STORMS
IT ALL STARTED When...
Two Bad Sisters named Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria ripped through our beloved Virgin Islands, our kitchen, and our home in September of 2017. In the months following the storms, we were displaced and left wondering what would become of St. John Catering & Mathayom Private Chefs, a business we had worked so hard to build since 2004 under the leadership of Mathayom Vacharat.
In January of 2018, we got lucky when we found at new home located at the former Fish Trap space in downtown Cruz Bay, St. John. The space gave us the chance to start a new and exciting company, Lucky Chops. After extensive renovations and rejuvenation Mathayom and his staff opened Lucky Chops in May of 2018 as a bar and restaurant featuring Asian inspired Caribbean cuisine and unique, hand-crafted island cocktails.
In June of 2019 Mathayom decided to pivot the business once again and return to the company’s roots of catering and private chef services. Accordingly, but with a heavy heart, he closed Lucky Chops the restaurant and converted the space into a Private Event Venue available now to rent for private parties such as weddings, corporate events, birthday or anniversary celebrations, or any special occasion.
The private event space features indoor and outdoor seating, an 800 square foot air-conditioned bar, private courtyard and all the equipment needed for private functions. Lucky Chops also offers full in-house catering for private parties held in our new space as well as off-site private chef services in partnership with our parent company, St. John Catering & Mathayom Private Chefs.
Lucky Chops will also continue to host special events at the Cruz Bay location including our monthly Full Moon Dinners which each feature a unique theme and one night only menu inspired by the full moon and created by some of the most talented chefs in the Virgin Islands.
